ATHENIANS: The Face of a City
LiFO Magazine is celebrating its 15 years of continual release, honoring the core of its main subject, Athens and its inhabitants.
With the motto “Athenians are those who love Athens”, LiFO is curating a large exhibition at Benaki Museum / Pireos 138 about the iconic figures and diverse heroes of everyday life in the Greek capital, those people who have narrated their experience in the magazine’s most popular and older weekly column “The Athenians”.
The exhibition will feature over 200 portraits, taken by famous Greek photographers, who have collaborated over the years with LiFO.
Its aim is to compose an image of Athens that can serve as a modern archive of an identity that is constantly changing and yet remains the same: inge
nious, inventive, hospitable, creative, daring, extrovert. The event applauds and deifies Athens and the Athenians as well as the art of photography in the printed press.
Participating photographers: Spyros Staveris, Anastasia Voutyropoulou, Paris Tavitian, Freddie F., Pantelis Zervos, Charlie Makkos, Stathis Mamalakis, Yiannis Bournias, Sokratis Sokratous, Irini Michopoulou, Nikos Katsaros, Photoharrie, Spyros Simotas.
