Athens International Film Festival “Opening Nights” conn-x is held every September establishing itself as the ideal opening of the upcoming movie season. Aims to highlight lesser-known aspects/genres of independent cinema, introducing audience to some of the best productions of the year. Also big-budget productions, films that will monopolise media attention, run for Academy Awards etc. The Festival also showcases music films and controversial productions.
Athens International Film Festival “Opening Nights” conn-x was founded by Athens Film Society ( a non-profit organisation), was launched September 1995 and continues successfully until now to present annually trends of international cinema. Apart from the great movies of each year hosts directors/producers themselves to a parallel program of talks, workshops, photo exhibitions and happenings that spread all around Athens and not only into screening rooms.

Competition Section, Panorama of World Cinema, Music & Films – In Competition, Music & Films, Documentaries, Cinema on the edge, Midnight movies, Premieres, Short premieres, Short Stories, Directors to watch, Retrospectives, Special Screenings.
Festival’s Awards and Prizes are named after the city’s ancient goddess “Athena”.
