Spots of Interest

Athens, part of the greater Attica region, is a city that is made up of multiple and unique districts, all of which offer major attractions and interesting places that should be on any visitor’s must visit or to-do list. Here are just some of the things we suggest you check out to best experience one of Europe’s most historic, culturally-rich and breathtakingly beautiful urban cosmopolitan cities.

 National Theatre

National Theatre hosts at its various different stages alternating repertory. Enjoying a play, is an ideal opportunity to get to know contemporary Greek theatrical production. National Opera

National Opera was founded in 1940. Presents high standard’ productions of opera, operetta, ballet, opera for children, recitals for Greek and foreign audiences. Every season its productions are impressive, most of them sold out from opening night.

 Athens Concert Hall – Megaron

Megaron is an inclusive cultural organisation with various halls and impressive cultural program. Hosts concerts recitals, big classical orchestras, operas, ballet, tributes to well-known Greek and world-famous composers and artists, exhibitions and lectures of international scientists and executives.

Onassis Cultural Centre

Onassis cultural centre made a dynamic entry to Athens cultural map and agenda. Impressive, innovative productions,  world-famous artists presenting theatre works, recitals, exhibitions heated on Athens’ artistic scene and audience.

Michael Cacoyannis Foundation

Foundation of awarded director Michael Cacoyannis is a cultural centre of the Performing Acts, particularly theatre and cinema. Apart from hosting director’s archives presents numerous productions, performances, theatre, cinema, modern dance, workshops, master classes and gives assistance and voice to promising young artists.

Greek Film Archive – Film Museum

A cultural organisation whose purpose is research, collection, conservation and promotion of Greek and international film heritage. It hosts interesting film festivals and tributes.

Lavrion Technological & Cultural Park

A place of research, innovation, education and culture. Reutilising the old installations of French Mining Company the area is a monument of industrial architecture. Ideal for a walk after visiting Poseidon Temple at Sounio, as it’s just a breath away.

Cultural Centre Stavros Niarchos Foundation
National Library – National Opera – Stavros Niarchos Park

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is a multifunctional and environmentally sustainable education, arts, and recreation complex/destination comprised of the 170,000m2 (42 acre) Stavros Niarchos Park, and new, state-of-the-art facilities for the National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Greek National Opera (GNO). The SNFCC will be completed in 2015 you can visit though the work in-progress by Visitors Centre.

The Visitors Center is a light temporary structure, which will operate until the SNFCC’s completion at the end of 2015. It will offer the public the opportunity to visit the construction site, learn about the structure and familiarize visitors with the vision and mission of the SNFCC. The Visitors Center will also offer a “snapshot” of what is to come at the SNFCC through exhibitions and activities for adults and younger generations.
The Visitors Center hosts a permanent exhibition providing information on the three main components comprising the SNFCC.
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00AM to 16:30PM
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) offers all interested parties the opportunity to visit the project’s construction site. Guided tours will be given by SNFCC associates, who will provide information on the development of one of the most important and complex construction projects ever undertaken in Greece.

SCHEDULE OF VISITS:
Visits will take place every second Thursday at 11:00 AM. Tours will begin at 10:30 AM, with a short tour of the Visitors Center. Participants will then get on board a bus for a guided tour of the construction site.
The first guided tour will take place on Thursday, October 10th, 2013.
